Overcome Your Fear of Failure

5 Easy Ways to Overcome Failure!

Can we all agree that EVERYBODY fails at some point? Humans are fallible and make mistakes and therefore have failed at some point in their lives? Failure can often feel HORRIBLE and some of us have come to avoid it at all costs! Don’t let fear hold you hostage! Here are 5 easy ways to get over your fear of failure!

5 Easy Ways to Overcome Fear of Failure

1. Imagine the worst case scenario

It helps immensely to visualize your success, especially if you make a vision board. However, it actually helps to imagine the worst-case scenario as well.

Exercise:

  1. Sit down with some paper or a journal and a comfortable pen and start writing. Your goal is to write out the worst possible scenario, but write down any obstacle or challenge that comes to mind. If you don’t know what to write, literally write what comes to mind (I don’t know what to write. I don’t know what I am afraid of. etc.). Sit in a quiet place and just keep writing for a minimum of 10 minutes. If you still have more to write, take all the time that you need. (Please Note: Writing it out by hand is HIGHLY recommended. )
  2. Once you have written down all of the obstacles and challenges you can think of, come up with an action plan to deal with each scenario.

Writing out your fears will help you face them head-on! Writing out your action plans will prepare you for the challenges that may come up. You’re well on your way to SUCCESS. This is a great way to evaluate and prepare for any goal or project you are undertaking!

2. Take Bold Action

The fear of failure can hold you hostage. The fear of failure kept me from doing a lot of things that I really wanted to do! It took a cancer scare to make me take action! I needed to make memories with my kids! I wanted to actually live. To THRIVE, not just SURVIVE. When you take bold action are taking a step in the right direction. Guest what? Even it was the “wrong” thing, you can still learn from it. That experience will help you take the next step toward your goals. If you can’t take bold action, take any action. Honestly, once you get moving towards your goal, the momentum will build on itself! Check out this post for more tips on taking action.

3. Talk to Successful People

Ask them about times that they’ve failed or times that they’ve felt a fear of failure. Even the world’s most successful people have had failures. I venture to say that they have had more failures than the population at large because they take bigger risks. Just knowing that you are not alone is helpful! While you’re at it talk to them about their successes too since this is one of the 5 Keys to Success as well.

4. Use Positive Affirmation

Believe in Yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is GREATER than any obstacle! (Including the Fear of Failure).

I used to think that positive affirmations were a crock! What could repeating an affirmation/mantra possibly do for you? Well, we all have a subconscious mind that listens to what we say and think. It is like a 5-year-old child that takes everything you say at face value. If you say you will fail, it will believe you. Use the help of affirmations in order to change your mindset about your fears. Affirmations can help you reprogram your subconscious mind so that you believe you will succeed. That belief will also help you take action!

EXERCISE:

Write down three positive affirmations put copies of them on post it note all over your home, work, car. Anywhere that you will see them repeatedly throughout the day. Every time you see them say them quietly or out loud. It may feel silly at first but give it a try! See if you can go 7 days, or even 30 days. Comment below and let me know how it goes!

5. Know that you will try again.

Tell yourself that no matter what happens you will try again! Even if you are face to face with failure, you WILL pick yourself up by the bootstraps and try again. Then follow your plan of action that you formulated in step 1. If you didn’t think of this obstacle ahead of time, it is not too late to plan and act !
